CarInsurance.com finds the best states for saving on car insurance

Nov. 13, 2012 (PRWEB) Foster City, CA – Car insurance rates in Ohio are among the nation’s lowest, but a new analysis by CarInsurance.com shows that it’s nonetheless the state where drivers who compare car insurance quotes potentially can save the most money.

A review of rates for every ZIP code in Ohio showed that the average annual premium from six national car insurance companies for a 40-year-old man insuring a 2012 Honda Accord was $969. The cheapest premium returned, on average, was just $424 -- a potential savings of 56 percent.

“No two insurance carriers have the same way of calculating rates,” said CarInsurance.com managing editor Des Toups.  “In some places the difference between the most expensive and least expensive is thousands of dollars -- and the rates in our study are for low-risk drivers. For people with black marks on their records, the differences would be even greater.”

Nationally, the average annual premium from six national carriers in all ZIP codes was $1,277 for a Honda Accord. But the cheapest premiums averaged $870, or 32 percent less.

A car insurance comparison shows that drivers in some states can save much more than that, though.

Methodology

CarInsurance.com commissioned Quadrant Information Services to provide a report of average auto insurance rates for a 2012 Honda Accord for every ZIP code in the United States. We calculated rates using data for six large carriers (Allstate, Farmers, GEICO, Nationwide, Progressive and State Farm).

Averages are based on insurance for a single 40-year-old male who commutes 12 miles to work each day, with policy limits of 100/300/50 ($100,000 for injury liability for one person, $300,000 for all injuries and $50,000 for property damage in an accident) and a $500 deductible on collision and comprehensive coverage. This hypothetical driver has a clean record and good credit. The rate includes uninsured motorist coverage. Average rates are for comparative purposes. Your own rate will depend on your personal factors and vehicle.
