I was convicted of DWI first offense in September 2005, and I am now required to have SR22 insurance for 3 years. My license was reinstated before the conviction, so I didn't have to show proof of SR22 filing when I got my license reinstated. What happens from here? Do I go ahead and get SR22 Insurance on my own or wait until I receive a notice from the Office of Motor Vehicles?

I recently bought an old car to get around in and insured it. I don't know how long it will last or if it will to make it through the winter. My insurance broker told me I could transfer the insurance to another car with no up-front costs or down payment costs. Is this a common procedure? Or, was I lied to?

My boyfriend went to get car insurance and was told that he had a revoked driver's license due to child support back pay. He was told that he could still get car insurance, but it would cost him an extra $100. He didn't have the money to get it at the time. So, now he has no license or insurance (but needs to get to work to pay his current child support). Does he need a license in order to get car insurance? How does he get his drivers license back?

Is there a chart or other instrument out there that indicates the amount of insurance points someone is assessed for different motor vehicle violations, and how much each insurance point costs? (It would really help when someone needs to make a determination of whether to accept a 'no points' ticket with a high fine, versus a 'small points' ticket with a very low fine.)

I am 17, got my license just over a week ago, and got a speeding ticket for doing 55 in a 45 zone. How much are my rates going to jump because of this and for how long? (I do have the good student discount, and I got the reduced rate for attending driving school from my insurance company (USAA in Nevada).)

I received a speeding ticket in Illinois while visiting there. I am from Ohio and so is my driver's license. At the time of the violation, I did not present my insurance. Instead, I presented the insurance of the person whose car I was driving. The officer said that since it's out of state, if I pay the ticket, no points will go on my record nor on my insurance. Is that true?

My husband and I will not own a car for about a month. Should we purchase a car insurance plan for a non-owner? If we have a period without car insurance, would we become "high risk" and possibly have higher rates? Also, how often does a credit score affect the rate you get on car insurance?

If your child is 18 years old and still living with you, can he or she drive your vehicles without being listed on your auto insurance? Example: a friend borrows your car and gets into an accident, was it legal for them to drive your car because you gave them permission? Therefore will your insurance carrier cover costs incurred minus your deductible?

I have a Rhode Island driver's license. I am currently in the military and living In California. I was just charged with a DUI and California took away my "priveledge" to drive. However, my license is not suspended anywhere but in California because they can't suspend a license issued by another state (and my driving record in Rhode Island is still clean). Will I have to file an sr-22 even though my actual driving record according to my state of residence is clean?
