Car Insurance Question  What kinds of violations would be cleared from my driving record?

When getting an auto insurance quote you should list all incidents, claims and violations in the past 5 years. The insurance company will pull a driving record for all drivers once you decide to purchase a policy with the company.

A driving record can be cleared after 3 to 7 years because most states don't have any laws that use the information for license status. Therefore, most insurance companies look back only 3, but some look back 5 to 7 years.

Your driving record shouldn't contain a violation IF:

  • You took traffic school or successfully completed a period of court supervision. This often happens for drivers who get a minor speeding ticket.
  • You fixed the damaged equipment listed in a citation and the authorities then dismissed the charges. This frequently happens if you're ticketed for something like a broken taillight.
  • You eventually showed yourself to be in compliance with regulations and the authorities then dismissed the charges. This happens when drivers are ticketed for driving without proof of auto insurance.

We hope this helps you when buying a policy for car insurance. CarInsurance.com helps you compare online insurance quotes.
