Car Insurance Question  If you are involved in a car wreck and they don't included the other person's insurance company on the police report. How can you find out if they are insured with someone?

In a majority of the states you will need to get this information from the police.

It is the law enforcement's responsibility to include this information on the accident report. If there is no accident report, then you should contact law enforcement to file a report. If you have a report, you will need to contact the police authority that wrote up the report.

You can contact your insurance company and they can assist you in this matter.

If you cannot locate the responsible party, then you will have to file the claim under your policy (if you have coverage that will cover the claim).

car insurance commentsi would say the question was understandable
car insurance commentsWell, I was involved in an accident. The officer made mistakes doing my police report and she couldnt give me information when I asked about the owner of the car. Its left up to me now. She really didnt want to help. Thats why I feel the answer was ok, but its easier said than done.
car insurance commentsIsn't there a database kept somewhere that has this information? How does the secratary of state know if the car is insured or if the insurance lapsed? Someone could tell the police they don't have it when they do.
