In most cases, with CarInsurance.com no one is looking at your driving record. An automatic process occurs where the computer processes information it receives from independent sources and/ or the state's systems to provide your driving record and/ or claim information. Each company has their own point values that are assigned for each type of violation or claim. Simply, most minor violations count as two (2) insurance points, major violations count as three (3) insurance points and serious infractions such as driving under the influence (DUI) may count as high as six (6) insurance points. This is all relative, because there are many factors that go into generating your rate; the process and algorithm is different for each company. These items can affect your rate: - Age
- Gender
- Marital Status
- Geography
- Driving violations (points generate a factor that is 'weighted' against all these items)
- Vehicle
- Claims
- Credit Rating
- Occupation
- Miles driven per year
- Distance to work
- Occupation
- Previous insurance limits
- Driving Experience
- Business use of the vehicle
- Whether or not you currently have auto insurance
- Theft protection devices (often results in discounts)
- Multiple cars and drivers (another opportunity for discounts)
