Car Insurance Question  Getting a license in this country is a joke so why don't you consider foreign driver's licenses in your quote? I have a French driver's license for 6 years but a U.S. permit for only 1 year, so why don't you take it into account? I am 24 years old and have more experience than someone who is 17.

Our quote application as well as those of most of our partners do recognize your foreign driver's license. In most cases, you will have to obtain a valid U.S. license either before or shortly after purchasing your policy.

Most insurance companies require you obtain a drivers license in the state you reside within 30 days after obtaining coverage.

car insurance commentsAre the french always complaining?
car insurance commentsI think the person was trying to say that the US driving test is ridiculously easy (which it is). The test in Europe is far harder and more rigourous. Given this, he was rightly upset that his driving record was not taken into account when assessing the premium (and therefore treated as a 17 year old). Of course you have to get a State DL fairly quickly in any State, so why does an insurance company want to add a 50% extra charge to an already huge premium premium for a foreign licence for 60 days?
car insurance commentsGetting a license in Europe is just as much a joke. The biggest difference is that there is a ton more bureaucratic mess you have to go through in Europe.
car insurance commentsThey often complain yes, but the americans often think they know everything (and I am US citizen). I live in Switzerland and I can tell you that almost none of the californian drivers would get their licence in Switzerland. I failed 3 times... The written test lasts 2 hours with over 60 questions that are way harder and trickier than the ones in California written test and there can be multiple correct answers too! The driving test lasts at least an hour and they make sure you know how to fully use your car. Most people in california dont even know how to engine brake! When I did my California driving test, it lasted like 10 minutes. I just went 2 blocks away and came back... Come on! How are they supposed to judge you in 10 minutes? That is ridiculous! And something very smart in Switzerland is the mandatory First Aid training. In CA, that is mandatory only for motorcycle. Most of the time in a motorcycle accident, it is the motorcyclist that needs help. How is he supposed to help?
