My car was damaged and an adjuster inspected my car and wrote me a check. It cost me less to get my car repaired than the check. Am I legally obligated to return the difference to the insurance company?

No, you are not obligated to return the difference to the insurance company. However, you might consider if the repair costs on your automobile were less than your deductible it may be prudent to contact the adjuster to discuss your claim. It is possible that your claim can be reversed. Every automobile insurance claim that is made by you will be recorded in your insurance report, however small the amount and could have an effect on the premium you pay later.
