Hi Penny!

Answering your CarInsurance.com questions since 2005

Q

If your windshield is cracked must your insurance company replace it or does it require collision insurance according to Florida law?

A

Florida Statute 627.7288 states that the deductible shall not apply to windshield damages. However, you must have either comprehensive or collision coverage. A policy that provides liability coverage only will not cover your windshield.

You can get an auto insurance comprehensive coverage quote here and even buy your policy online.

I was under the understanding that in Florida your front windshield was fixed no matter what. The hood on my car came opened while driving down the road and smashed my windshield. I have to young children and am a single mom. I am presently unemployed and cannot afford to replace my windshield. It is unsafe to drive it that way but I don't have much choice. I really need help with this matter.
