Under my insurance policy, I am designated as the only operator. What if a family member drives my car and is involved in an accident or perhaps a speeding violation? How will my insurance company treat this case?

With most insurance companies residents of the household would need to be listed on the policy to be rated and covered. If you wish to exclude the resident then no coverage would be provided to the excluded driver. As far as liability for accidents the owner of the vehicle would be liable as well as the driver. As far as speeding violations, normally the driver would be responsible for the ticket not the owner. It would appear on the drivers record.
