I recently got a ticket for driving with an unauthorized driver on a lerner's permit in Maryland. The officer said the ticket is worth five points on my record. Will this keep me from getting my license?

This, alone, should not keep you from getting your regular license. It will go on your driving record. If there are other violations on your driving record, you will need to be careful. If you obtain too many points within a short period of time (like 12 points within 12 months), the state will suspend your license. This will hinder your ability to get your license. Also, if you fail to pay for your violation in a timely manner, Maryland may suspend your license and will hinder your ability to get your license. Also, please be aware that insurance companies use your driving record to help determine your insurance premiums. And, the violation you received is one most insurance companies frown upon. You will want to keep your driving record clean to help you acquire the most affordable insurance coverage.
