I live in Florida, and my father recently had an automobile accident. He had taken a license plate of mine from an old car of mine without my knowledge or consent and placed it on the car he had an accident with. He told the officer and other party that it was my car and gave them my contact info. He was also found at fault in the accident. Am I going to be held liable for the other person's auto damages? How will this affect my insurance rates?

No, you should not be liable for this accident. The legal owner of the vehicle (your father) would be responsible regardless of whose tag was on the vehicle. The legal owner can be determined by contacting the Department of Motor Vehicles in your state. You should contact your insurance company and speak to a claims representative to let them know what happened so that auto insurance fraud is not committed. They will to respond to the claimant (the other party) that you are not liable since it was not your vehicle. The claimant (the other party) will most likely try contacting your father and will find out that there was no insurance on the vehicle.

You can comparison shop for a new policy by getting an autos insurance quote here and even buy your policy online.
