I would need more specific information to accurately answer your question. However, judging by the tone of your question, it seems to me that your vehicle was vandalized. It was reported to your insurance company. They asked you to take your vehicle to one of their preferred body shops. The body shop is going to a job that will not meet your standards. From there, it appears that you and your insurance company have chosen to go before a judge to determine if you can go elsewhere to have your vehicle fixed and if the insurance company needs pay that total amount. To my knowledge, there is no standard amount of estimates required to present before a judge. I would suggest you bring at least three estimates. As to where you need to get your vehicle repaired, some insurance companies use preferred body shops. That is where they would prefer to have you take your vehicle to get it fixed. However, I do not believe insurance companies are allowed to do anything that will jeopardize your vehicle's warranty. As a result, you should be able to take it anywhere to get it fixed. The only problem with this is the insurance company will only pay the lesser amount of money necessary to fix your vehicle - whether it is fixed by their body shop or one of your choice.
