My son will be working for Cisco in Raleigh for approximately 18 months. I understand from our insurance carrier that he cannot keep Canadian insurance on the car for that long. What do we have to do to arrange insurance and do we have to change the plates etc. when he gets there. He drives a 2002 PT Cruiser and it is registered in both of our names. I have been licensed for 28 years and he has been licensed for 11. We both have clear insurance with no claims.

You must have a license and register the vehicle in the state in which you reside. There may be a grace period that you have in order to make the transition. In most cases the time frame is 30 days.
