My elderly grandfathers drivers license expired last April and he continues to drive his car. Apparently he couldnt see well enough to complete the renewal test, so he likely would not be given a renewal even if he tried. If he gets in an accident, will his auto insurance cover his losses if he is knowingly driving without a license?

If he is currently insured now he will be covered for the insurance coverage he has even if the license is expired. However, when the policy is renewed the driving record is usually run and it will be know he doesn't have a license. Then he would have to get it or be cancelled or no renewed. Also he will get a ticket for driving with revoke/suspended license and can be arrested as well.
