Am I the only person who can drive my car? For example, if I have been drinking, can a friend who is sober drive me home in my car? Can I lend my car to a friend for the day? Can my wife drive my vehicle if she is not explicitly named on my policy?

In general, if anyone is going to be driving your vehicle with any kind of regularity or frequency, you need to list that person as a driver on your policy. In most cases, you need to let your insurance company know who is residing with you. At that point, you will need to let the company know if that person will be driving your vehicle or not. If the resident will drive the vehicle (even once), the company will have you list the resident on the policy as a driver. If you tell the insurance company that your household resident will not drive your vehicle, they will have you 'exclude' the resident. At that point, you are accepting full responsibility if you allow the excluded household resident to drive your vehicle - even if it is once and regardless of the circumstance. As for your wife, you need to notify your insurance company if your marital status changed during the policy period. Again, in general, most insurance companies will make you list your spouse as a driver on your policy - if she has a driver's license. Other than that, if it is a 'one-time' thing where a non-resident drives your vehicle, it should be fine.
