I have bodily injury liability insurance limits of $50,000/$100,000. Recently, I was involved in a car accident, and the other driver has already accumulated $14,000 in medical and other bills. I got a letter from my insurance company stating I should probably get a lawyer, because they feel the claims will exceed my coverage. Can I personally be sued by the other driver?

I know this may sound cliche, but we live in a society where people get sued all of the time. Now, your insurance company will not pay more than $50,000 in medical bills for the other driver. After that, the other driver will go to you to help pay for the outstanding bills. You should seek out legal advice. If anything, they will be able to outline your available options.
