A car can be put in your name, but some state laws don't allow minors to hold sole title to a vehicle (parent or guardian must be listed). Likewise, insurance companies will require someone 18 or over to sign the insurance contract (application) to make it legal. If you are 18 or over, you should be able to put the car in your name, but finding insurance may be difficult with only a learner's permit. Most insurance companies allow you to purchase a policy with a learner's license. However, depending on your age, they will require you obtain your regular driver's license within thirty to forty-five days of your policy's inception date. We have carriers that require you to have a valid license at the time of purchase and in some states we have carriers that will allow you to purchase with a learner's permit, but you have to get a license quickly. If the company requests proof of your regular driver's license and you fail to provide it to them, they will cancel your policy. Also, to take out your policy, the insurance companies may require you list someone on your policy who is at least 21 years old and has a regular driver's license. You can click here for an automobile insurance rate and have the ability to purchase your policy on-line.
