Insurance is supposed to protect you from financial loss. Your insurance will cover you for the coverages and limits for which you are paying a premium. Besides the owner of the vehicle, this coverage will extend to other people diving the vehicle - under certain circumstances. First of all, in order to be covered, the person needs to be driving the vehicle with the permission of its owner. If the driver resides in the vehicle owner's household, in order to be covered, that person will need to be listed as a driver on the vehicle owner's insurance policy. If the driver does not reside in the vehicle owner's household and drives the vehicle with any kind of regularity, in order to be covered, the driver will need to be listed as a driver on the vehicle owner's policy. If the driver does not reside in the vehicle owner's household, does not drive the vehicle with any kind of regularity (or frequency), and the driver is driving the vehicle with permission, the driver should be covered to the extent the insurance company allows in its underwriting guidelines.
