I let my driver's license and my car insurance expire four years ago. I passed the written part of my driving test today and have an appointment in a week for the driving portion of the test. I want to purchase insurance now. Am I going to have problems getting a new policy? Also, are my rates going to be a lot higher due to the four years without a policy?

Even though your license is currently 'expired,' there are insurance companies that will insure you right now. They will request that you provide them proof your driver's license has been renewed within thirty to fourty-five days within your policy's inception date; otherwise, they will cancel your policy. Also, your rates will be technically higher without any prior insurance. Insurance companies offer discounts for six months prior insurance with less than seven days lapse. But, this discount (or tiers with some companies) is more of a reward for that customer opposed to a punishment for you.

If you are looking for low cost auto insurance, you can click here to get a quote be able to purchase your insurance immediately.

On the driver screen of our quote form, simply select 'Expired' under drivers license status.
