My daughter is a full time college student (17 years old) and residing on campus, 30 miles away. She does not have a car. She is currently on our auto insurance policy. In Michigan, can we take her off our policy? If so, how? If she drives our car on occasion will she be covered by our policy?

Most insurance companies will require you list all household members as drivers - including any children away from home or at college that may operate your vehicle. Coverage is usually extended to any other person using your insured car with your express or implied permission to do so. However, it usually does not include any relative not listed on the application or policy. You should check with your insurance company to determine what your specific guidelines are regarding this situation, because each insurance company has different insurance rules. Some companies do look at mileage driven some don't. It may be possible to list her as an occasional driver. You also may be able to exclude her off the policy for the time she is in school with proof of her other address. The company may go on the assumption that she has access to your vehicle and may require you keep her listed as a regular driver. Again, check with your insurance company to find a resolution to your insurance needs.
