Can I insure a car that does not belong to me?

It depends on the insurance company. Most insurance companies will not allow you to insure someone else's vehicle, because you do not have any 'insurable interest' in it. However, 'Esurance' is an insurance company that will allow you to insure someone else's vehicle. They do not offer a non-owners insurance policy.

You can purchase insurance on someone else's car, as long as that person is listed on the policy.

Depending on the state in which you live and keep the vehicle, you can get a quote with Esurance.
