If I modify my car, (i.e. I put car tires on my van) will I need to notify my insurance company? If I do not and am in an accident, will my insurance pay out?

If you make any non-factory modifications to your vehicle, you need to let your insurance company know immediately. I do not believe failure to disclose changes is grounds for your insurance company to deny a claim. If you fail to notify your insurance company, they will probably pay for the claim and set your policy for "non-renewal." (This means that when your policy expires, you will be asked to insure that vehicle elsewhere - if you still have it.)
