A sr22 is a form which must be filed by the insurance company stating that auto liability (property damage liability and bodily injury liability) insurance is in effect for a particular individual. It is required when insurance is provided to an individual who was in an accident or was convicted of a traffic offense and was unable to show financial responsibility. Now, if your husband still resides in Georgia, he will need to take out a sr22 policy. And, to keep that policy "in force," he will be required to get his Georgia driver's license. Now, if he resides outside of Georgia, he will need to find an insurance company that will write a "Georgia sr22." Many insurance companies will not write an out-of-state sr22. As a result, he may have to take out a policy through an insurance company run by the state in which he is residing.
