My daughter's friend was driving her car when she was involved in an accident. Who's car insurance has to pay for the damage?

As a rule, coverage follows the vehicle first. So, assuming your daughter's insurance company finds it acceptable that her friend drove her vehicle, your daughter's insurance coverage will be "primary." The insurance company of your daughter's friend will be responsible for the claim, too. Their coverage will be "excess" or "secondary."
