Your insurance company will cover this claim if you had "comprehensive" coverage at the time of the flood. "Comprehensive" covers your vehicle, and sometimes other vehicles you may be driving for losses resulting from incidents other than collision. This includes loss caused by missles, falling objects, fire, theft or larceny, explosion, earthquake, windstorm, hail, water, flood, malicious mischief or vandalism, riot or civil commotion, colliding with a bird or animal, or breakage of glass. Your insurance company will pay the lessor of fixing your vehicle or "totaling" it. If your insurance company decides to "total" your vehicle, you or your lienholder will be paid the vehicle's "actual cash value." This value takes its depreciation into consideration. Also, the deductible you chose will apply.
