Car Insurance Question  I borrowed a car last month to run an errand. While driving, I was pulled over for a burned out taillight. I did not have proof of my insurance with me. I was given a ticket and told to go to the courthouse prior to a given date and simply show my insurance card. I did so and was told by a clerk I had to show proof of insurance for the vehicle I was driving. I am not in contact with the person whose vehicle I borrowed more than a month ago. I have no way of showing it was insured.

You will need to provide the proof for which the clerk is looking. You will need to provide proof the vehicle was insured. You will need to do what you can to secure proof that you were driving a vehicle that was insured. Otherwise, the violation you received is considered by most insurance companies as a minor violation. If this is your first violation, it should not affect your insurance rates - unless it eliminates a "safe driver" discount. Now, you can follow this link to learn more about your state's insurance laws.
