Your insurance coverage should not protect your son - if he drives someone else's vehicle. In most cases, the insurance of the other person's vehicle will cover him. The other person will need to check with his/her insurance company to make sure there is coverage. In the meantime, your son may want to purchase a "non owner" policy. A "non owner" policy will typically provide coverage for liability, medical payments, and uninsured motorist coverages for someone who does not own a vehicle and will be operating a vehicle owned by someone else.
