If my husband and I live in my parents' basement and we have our own car insurance, do I still need to have my dad on my car insurance policy - even though he does not drive my car? (My parents' car insurance company says they need another policy with just my car with his name on it, but I feel like it is unnecessary.)

The rules pertaining to household residents can vary from insurance company to insurance company. You and your parents should talk to their insurance company about this situation. Their insurance company may have something in their underwriting guidelines that pertains to this situation.
