Car Insurance Question  Is the car required to be registered in the state of Florida to obtain insurance in Florida? My car is registered in KY and I recently moved to Florida. My current insurance company stated that when my renewal comes up, they cannot renew it since I moved to a new state.

Yes, your car needs to be registered in Florida since it appears you have recently moved there permanently. According to the Florida Department of Motor Vehicles a motor vehicle is required by law to be registered within ten days of the owner becoming either employed, placing children in public school or establishing residency. If you are past the 10 day mark and the state finds out there could be delinquency fees added to the registration cost.

Florida statutes require Florida insurance as well. Only insurance countersigned or issued by a Florida agent is electronically reported to the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles for verification purposes.
