My husband has his license suspended for 3 months currently due to speeding tickets. We are in the process of buying a new car in the next couple of days and will finance the car thru the car dealership. What will happen with car insurance? When we call to add the new car onto the policy, will they run us thru the dmv to check our driving records (mine is fine) at that time or will they do this at the time of policy renewal?

Every insurance company is different in the way in which it evaluates new policies. An auto insurance company can check your driving record at any time but the most common times to check it are when you first apply for insurance coverage, when you request a change to your current policy (such as adding a driver), when you want to add a vehicle (such as your new car) and when it is time for you to renew your policy.

It is likely though that your husband's license suspension will affect your rates. So you might see if there are ways in your state to have the suspension taken off of the driving record (by means of traffic school, etc) or shop around for insurance to make sure you are getting the best rates for your situation.
