If my son has a G2 license. If he is not added to my insurance nor has his own insurance can he drive my car when I am a passenger in the front seat (i.e. just as when he had his G1) with no extra cost to the insurance?Adding him to my insurance will of course cost a lot as he is a young male.

Typically, when a G2 license is obtained the driver must be listed as a principal driver on the policy. This is much different from an occasional operator.

This is a hard decision, but it is a part of taking on the responsibilities of driving. The reason the rates are higher is because the risk is much higher for a younger driver, but that doesn't make it any easier to pay the higher premium. The rates would be higher if it is a male or female.

You should discuss it with your agent to see if there are some alternatives, like purchasing a vehicle for your son where he will be rated only on that vehicle or removing coverage for your son while driving a rental car.

We offer kanetix insurance products on our site.

Comment Update: Rights should not be confused with risk. Rates are higher for both young male drivers and young female drivers. Insurance is about spreading risk, from an individual to many other individuals and there are many forms of discrimination and only unjust discrimination is illegal and wrong. CarInsurance.com believes that illegal insurance discrimination is wrong, especially if there is no statsitical basis used to differentiate rates.
