I am coming to Miami in Feburary and wish to buy a used car to tour around the US for 8 months. I do not have a permanent address, I am 26, I have a Danish drivers license. Is it at all possible to get an insurance, if so how and how and where and how expensive will it be?

It should be possible to get insurance with just your international permit but most insurance companies that allow this require that you get a State license within a certain time, generally 30 days. This varies due to different insurance company guidelines and different State laws.

Because you do not have a driving record here in the United States to check the insurance premiums will be higher. Check with us for a free quote to see if we can offer the insurance you need.

car insurance commentsCompanies are in effect (such as Infinity Insurance and Progressive Insurance) that allow you to have a policy as long as you can provide a license, US, or international does not matter. Infinity has begun new underwriting guidelines to only provide coverage to those with prior insurance history, so if they cannot verify your prior coverage, your best bet is to stay with Progressive on this. They will charge a small fee as a surcharge for no US driving experience but will insure you with no limitations on when you obtain a license. After one full calendar year of having a permanent FL license, the charges are lifted from your policy by underwriting.
