Car Insurance Question  While away on Thanksgiving holiday, my car insurance was due and expired without my knowledge. While away, someone had hit the rear end of my car. This happened only 1 day after the policy was canceled due to nonpayment. The hit and run driver's license plate was recorded by a neighbor but the neighbor didn't see the accident, only the wrecker taking the SUV away. The insurance company now says that they will not do anything due to the expire date of the insurance. Is there anything i can do?

Since your car insurance had expired it is unlikely that they will be able to help you in any way. If you have not called the police and made a report I would do that now. Using your neighbor's information regarding the license plate of the hit and run driver hopefully the police can help you track the at-fault person down.

The hit and run person might fess up when confronted in which case if they have insurance you should be able to make a claim. If not than you may need to get legal advice to see what your next step would be.
