I have my country's drivers license but not an international drivers permit. I recently took and passed the written exam in the state of michigan. Can I get an insurance policy to cover me for at least 30 days while I prepare for my road test?

Most insurance companies prefer that you have a valid license from the state in which you are residing, instead of a foreign or international license, before purchasing auto insurance. There are some car insurance companies though that will allow you to buy an insurance policy now and give you 30 days to get your state license.

By passing the Michigan written exam you should have received your Temporary Instruction Permit (TIP) which should prove to insurance companies that you are on your way to getting a state license.
