Q

I received a ticket for driving without my driver's license. I was in possession of a valid drivers license at the time but did not have it on me. Can I get this dismissed if I go to court and show them I have a valid license? Or am I better off just paying the $66? I live and was ticketed in Virginia.

A

Driving without a license in Virginia is usually 3 points on your driving record but assuming you can provide the court with a copy of your license it is likely the points may not be applied since you had a valid driver's license.

Even though there are certain state laws for Virginia, your local jurisdiction might have guidelines of their own. I would contact the clerk of the court or the department specified on the back of the ticket. This entity should be able to discuss what options you have. You might be required to both pay the fine and show proof of your valid driver's license to take car of the citation.
