I purchased my new car last Saturday. On my way out of the dealership, I hit a deer. All this happened 5 minutes after I said goodbye to the dealer and less than a half mile away from the dealership. Would this be covered under the insurance the dealership had since the deer hit happened on the same day I was delivered the vehicle or should I claim the accident in a classic manner?

Unless your state has different laws than most, once you take possession of your vehicle at the dealership then you would be responsible for anything that happens with the car. Thus typically you will need to claim the damage from the deer under the comprehensive coverage portion of your insurance policy.

Comprehensive coverage includes losses caused by fire, hail, falling objects and colliding with an animal. Contact your insurance agent to find out what steps to take next. You might also decide contact the dealership from which you picked up the vehicle to see if they will take pity on you and give you a discount on the repairs or have any other advice for you.
