I obtained a certified copy of my driving record which says that I have no violations in the last 3 years but I was in an accident about a year ago in another state. When I go for car insurance will they be able to see this or is all they check is my DMV record?

Most states are part of the Drivers License Compact or Agreement which allow them to transfer infraction or violation information between Motor Vehicle Agencies. It could be that the state in which you had the accident or your home state is not part of this agreement and thus the information did not transfer. Or it could be that the system is backed up and that the information will eventually come through and be added to your DMV record.

Your car insurance company might not see the accident if it is not showing up on your DMV but if you put in a claim or had a claim filed against your insurance policy it is likely that shows up in their records. If the insurance company asks about your record it is always better to be honest and upfront so that you can get an accurate quote.
