Car Insurance Question  My car insurance has lapsed. My wife forgot to pay it and I just found out. I called my insurance company and they hiked up my rates. Can I find insurance elsewhere at a cheaper rate even though my coverage had lapsed?

The best way to find a better or cheaper insurance rate is to shop around. If your insurance just lapsed it generally should not be a problem to find a new insurance company to cover you. That being said, the rate increase was likely due to a loss of a discount for renewing your policy on time or being insured continually without lapse.
