To get started on your quest to become an auto insurance agent, contact your state's insurance regulatory body. This organization will be able to give you information on what it takes to be issued your state required agent or broker's license. In most states, licenses are issued only to applicants who complete specified pre-licensing courses and continue on to pass a state examination covering insurance fundamentals and state insurance laws. Part of this is usually classroom hours, a test and then a final exam. After obtaining your auto insurance license be prepared to take continuing education classes to retain your license designation.
