Car Insurance Question  My friend who lives in Michigan is buying a car to leave in Florida for me to drive. Can I purchase a non-owner policy to drive this car without her putting any insurance on this vehicle in her name up in Michigan?

It could be possible to insure the car that your friend is allowing you to drive, even it you do not have any insurable interest. Not all companies will allow this but Esurance has polices that allow for people to insure their friend's vehicle for collision and comprehensive coverages. This is unlike non-owners which is basically is only liability insurance and intended for only occasional users of a vehicle.

Some insurance companies, such as Esurance, require you to have care, custody and control of a vehicle in order to be the named insured. Normally though a car must be registered and insured in the state where the car is kept which may cause difficulties due to you and the vehicle being in Florida while the owner/friend is in Michigan.

We can help you with auto insurance quotes but check with the Florida DMV to find out how you and your friend will need to go about registering the car in Florida or if this will need to be done in Michigan.
