Car Insurance Question  I got a DUI in California 4 years ago. When will my insurance company not be able to use this against me and lower my rates? They claim that my rates are so high because of this however, a friend told me that they are no longer allowed to do this after 3 years. Is this true?

Many traffic offense convictions in California remain on your record for 3 years but the DUI is considered a harsher offense so it, along with hit and runs and reckless driving, remains on your record for 7 years from the violation date. A failure to appear for a DUI offense will be reported for 10 years.

Each insurance company decides their rates using many variables. To find out about your insurance company's rating system you can contact the California Department of Insurance because the must file their rates with this entity.

You might decide to shop around, for auto insurance comparison we can help.
