Car Insurance Question  My relative passed his driving test 3 months ago but can't drive as yet because when he made enquiries about insurance, he was told that he can only be insured 6 to 9 months after passing his test. Is this correct? If not, do you know of a reputable company who can insure him "fully comprehensive" in New York?

Insurance companies each have their own guidelines about how they insure individuals. It could be the insurance company your relative called has the rule about not insuring motorists that just passed the driving test. In most states you are able to acquire auto insurance with just a driver's permit so it should be possible to get insurance if the driving test has been passed and your relative now has a valid driver's license.

The company that CarInsurance.com represents in NY requires that you have an active license before you purchase insurance. If your relative has this, then go here for a car insurance quote. If this company is unable to help you I would suggest contacting NYS's Insurance Department to find an insurance company that will.
