You will need to check with your insurance company to find out if you will be able to add your son onto your policy as an occasional driver for driving your vehicle. If he drives your car more than occasionally and does not reside with you it is likely he will need his own policy. If he needs a policy on a car that is in his name and he resides in your household, the insurance company may add him and his car to your policy, rate him on his vehicle (and rate him as an occasional driver for your vehicle). If he does not reside in your household a company will probably not add him to your policy. Speak with an insurance agent and let them know if the vehicle he drives is parked at his residence and not your house each night. This could make a difference on obtaining insurance for an occasional driver as well. If you or your son is in need of an insurance policy with a new insurance company you can start getting an auto insurance quote.
