The National Safety Council (NSC) defensive drivers course (DDC) is a comprehensive driver improvement program with usually a 6 or 8 hour curriculum that offers practical knowledge. The course includes techniques to avoid crashes and to choose safe, responsible and lawful driving behaviors. After a person completes the course they will receive a NSC DDC Certificate of Completion. In many states this makes you eligible for point reduction or ticket dismissal. According to the NSC site insurance companies in 34 of the 50 states allow for a reduction on insurance premiums to DDC certificated graduates. We were unable to find a list of the specific insurance companies in Michigan that allow for credit or rate reduction to those that complete the NSC DDC. We suggest contacting the Insurance Division for the state of Michigan to see if they possess such a list.
