How do insurance agencies check your driving record? Do they only check the state you currently reside in or the state that you have your license issued from? I'm going to be buying a new car and get new insurance.

How insurance companies check your driving record varies from company to company but many will go back a set number of years. If you had a license in a different state during that time period the insurance company will typically want to check your driver's license record in the previous state as well as the state in which you currently reside.

Your state asks about the state in which you reside and the state in which you have your license issued. Most states require for you to be licensed in the state in which you reside. If you have recently moved to a new state, that state likely requires you to get a license within a certain time period so you should check with the DMV.
