I live in New Jersey. This morning a deer jumped in front of my car and I struck it. I've heard that in the state of New Jersey if someone hits a deer they wouldn't have to pay their insurance deductible. Is this correct?

We could find no New Jersey law that prohibits insurance companies from requesting the deductible if you are making a claim under your comprehensive coverage for hitting a deer. We have heard of various insurance companies that waive the deductible under these circumstances though.

Laws change so to find out what currently is the the NJ state statute regarding an auto insurance deductible after striking a deer ask either your insurance agent or contact New Jersey's Department of Banking and Insurance.
