Since you are driving a semi-truck we assume you have a commercial license (CDL), which the rules for this type of license differ than those for a motorist with a normal license. For example, in California if you have a CDL license and receive a traffic citation in a commercial vehicle the violation carries one and a half times the points normally assessed. If you work for a company and the insurance is through them, that insurance carrier will typically decide who they will or will not insure and they take into account your driving record. Some insurance companies have limits of 3 minor tickets or 2 serious tickets within three years. Serious tickets for CDL holders can include speeding over 15 mph, following too close or improper lane change. You should check with your state's DMV to see if there is a limit to the number of tickets you can receive and still hold a valid CDL. As for insurance, check with your current insurance company to see what their restrictions are concerning the number of traffic citations you can receive. If you are currently in the market for insurance to cover the semi, you will need to find out what insurance companies allow with regards to traffic violations since it is likely to vary between different companies.
