Car Insurance Question  My son has a G2 license. In Oct. 2004 he was in the car without a licensed driver and now insurance companies either won't insure us or charge an huge premium. I feel this is unfair. The penalty doesn't fit the crime. Is there anything we can do?

According to documents by the Insurance Bureau of Canada when a G2 driver does not adhere to the conditions of their license the offense is considered the same as driving without a license. This can be a thought of as a serious offense by insurance companies. So this offense, along with your son still being in the graduated license system, makes him a bigger risk to insurance companies and thus a higher premium is typically charged.

If you feel that your premium is way beyond what it should be you can shop around for insurance or contact one of the government agencies such as the Ministry of Transportation (mto.gov.on.ca), Financial Services Commission of Canada, or the Insurance Bureau of Canada. They might be able to help you find more affordable automobile insurance.
