Car Insurance Question  I was involved in a hit and run accident. There is $4,000 worth of damage to my car, I got the other license number but the tags came back to a different car. How should the hit and run claim be filed as a collision or uninsured driver? This happened in North Carolina.

Some states, including North Carolina, allow insureds to purchase uninsured motorist property damage coverage as party of their policy. If it is uninsured motorist property damage that you have, you should be able to claim the accident under it. If you only have uninsured motorist bodily injury coverage you could not.

You should contact your insurance agent to make certain that your insurance company's guidelines allow for a hit and run accident to be claimed under the uninsured motorist property coverage category instead of Collision coverage. Insurance companies and their rules for this can differ.
