Car Insurance Question  I am an Ohio resident, but received a speeding ticket in Pennsylvania while driving through. I've read that some states do not assess points to a license if the driver is not from that state. Is this true for Ohio? If I pay the ticket from PA (and in essence plead guilty to the ticket), would points still be assessed to my Ohio license? Or do out-of-state speeding violations not apply to the Ohio violations point system?

Ohio and Pennsylvania are both part of the Driver License Compact (DLC) so they do exchange information between their licensing agencies. For Ohio this is the Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV).

We have heard that Ohio does not assess points for out-of-state traffic convictions but in the last few years Ohio has changed the state's points system so you will need to check with the BMV to find out for certain if your PA speeding ticket will be assessed points or only be noted on your OH driving record without points assigned to it.

If points are assessed for the PA ticket under the Ohio points system it would result in 4 points, 2 points or no points depending on what the posted speed limit was and the number of mph in which you were exceeding it.

If points are assigned and your insurance rates rise you can do Ohio auto insurance comparison starting here.
